The Hilton Center: A Hidden Gem of Culture on the Ave

The Hilton Center: A Hidden Gem of Culture on the AveOn upper Central Avenue, next to Westgate Plaza on Russell Rd, lies the Hilton Center. A large building with several businesses, the Center can accomodate any cultural need you can think of. From lessons to performances, for kids or adults, the Hilton Center offers any and everything for the creative minded individual. This includes lessons and performances in singing, dancing, acting, and performing both vocally and instrumentally.

The main theater opened its doors on January 9, 1999. Since then, it has hosted numerous productions including Dinner Murder Mystery shows, contemporary comedies, drama and variety acts. It is also one of the only black box theaters in the area that also features live music: from jazz, folk and big bands to vocal and dance reviews. The theater has also been a showcase for local playwrights, giving them a foot in the door and a place to perform their work.

Director and Manager Ginger Miller, along with Assistant Director Agnes Kapusta, encourage new area talent and groups who would like to get started in the arts, but can't seem to find a stage. Ginger and Agnes are not strangers to the entertainment business, and their experience, dedication, and love for all artforms has only strengthened their committment to up and coming artists. The theater also has an adjoining coffee shop, open for all shows and feature presentations. The theater has plenty of parking and is handicap accessible.

In conjunction with the performances in the theater, the Hilton Center also offers lessons in many disciplines. These include music instruction, acting lessons and dance classes. Also in the building is New Music, a music store also offering rehearsal rooms and lessons, and DC Gymnastics Inc., offering instruction in all forms of gymnastics. The Hilton Center has many exciting upcoming productions, and they can be found on the web at www.hiltoncenter.com. The next big production will be Death of a Salesman, directed by Glenn Read. The Hilton Center is located at 40 Russell Rd, (off Central Ave next to Westgate) and can be reached at (518) 453-1048.
